Update to NFA Transfer Guidance

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives released an Open Letter and Frequently Asked Questions explaining how it will treat ownership, transfer, and transportation of the National Firearms Act (NFA) firearms for which Congress eliminated the making and transfer taxes in the One Big Beautiful Bill.

Under ATF’s guidance, ATF will not enforce the requirements for individuals to apply and receive ATF approval before making or transferring short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors (silencers), and certain other concealable firearms known in the law as “any other weapons.” ATF also will not enforce the NFA’s registration, tax-stamp or related requirements for those covered items. The $200 tax remains in place for machine guns and destructive devices. The NFA requirements apply in full to those weapons.  The guidance does not supersede state and local laws that restrict NFA firearms.  

Keep in mind that this is not a change in the NFA law, but a decision not to enforce the standing law.  Only congress can change the NFA law.

What this means for you:

Apocalypse Outfitters and/or SAS Outfitters LLC will process Suppressor, Short-barreled Rifles and short-barreled shotguns on form 4473 starting on October 12th 2026. You will need to sign a waver indicating that you understand the risks of transfering an NFA item on a form 4473 as opposed to a Form 4. You can still elect to transfer your purchase on a Form 4.  If you so choose to do so, then the fees below apply.

NFA Transfers. 
If you are purchasing an NFA item online and wish to have Apocalypse Outfitters perform the transfer to you, there are some things you need to know.
Our NFA transfer fee is $100.  This fee includes preparing your Form 4, your 4473 form as well as digital fingerprinting. 
We will generate an eft file for your fingerprints and will also provide a copy to you if requested.
This fee is non-negotiable and non-refundable.
